There are many types of stains that can be very hard to remove from your carpet. One of those is caused by motor oil. So you might be wondering what the odds are of motor oil ending up on your carpet? Well, you may also be surprised at how many carpet owners are faced with this very problem.

So how do you remove motor oil from your carpet? Well, luckily, it is not an impossible feat. The following steps should give you the best chance of successfully removing any nasty motor oil stains from your carpet.

· Always try to get to the spilled motor oil as soon as possible. Cleaning it immediately greatly increases your chances of successfully removing the oil. As soon as there is a motor oil spill, try to remove as much of the oil as you can. A wet/dry vac is your best option. But if you do not have access to one you can use a spoon to scoop up as much of the motor oil from the carpet as possible.

· Next, get some clean paper towels or a cloth and start blotting the stained area. The idea is to absorb as much as you can to make your cleaning efforts less difficult. Make sure not to rub on the stain. Rubbing will only push the oil further into the carpet, making it worse. Continue blotting the area until you no longer see any transfer onto your towel or cloth.

· After blotting, your next step is to use a cleaning agent on the stain. Your local stores will have many options in the carpet cleaning aisle. Choose one which works well with oil and oil based stains. Just make sure to read the labels to make sure that your chosen cleaner is compatible with your type of carpet. Apply the cleaning agent on a clean cloth and start blotting the area again. Repeat this until all of the stain is gone.

· Next, use another clean cloth to cover the area you just cleaned. Then, put a heavy object, such as a book or weight, on top so that the cloth will absorb any remaining liquid in the carpet fibers. Leave this for two to three hours before removing it.

· After removing the cloth, make sure to thoroughly rinse the area with clean water and then dry it completely. This will remove any residue that can be left behind.

Dealing with motor oil stains doesn't have to be a nightmare. Just follow these simple steps and your carpet will be stain-free again in no time.
